The phoenix post*

I just had a good idea for a post, and in the few minutes I took to make an entry in my journal, I seem to have forgotten it. (Again. Actually, I turned on the computer to post something, and ended up just doing something else and only after logging out did I remember why I'd turned it on in the first place, and by then, I'd already forgotten it...)

Ah... I just remembered!

Sometime last week, I happened to download a couple of Jon Higgins songs, and so I shared them with my brother and his wife. And they started wondering what had happened to me. They couldn't fathom how such music could have been found with me.

Methinks they imagine me something like our beloved Rajkiran here:

(I couldn't find a better image to illustrate a paetta rowdy, sorry.)

And so, they can't imagine me in a setting like this:

Or listening to:

Whereas I'm actually like this:

I can see you don't believe me, but well, since when people start believing in the good and the pure and the *insert yet another adjective here*? :P

And earlier this week, B suddenly asked me, "You talk a lot, don't you?", which had me for a moment, and then she said it's been quiet in the class without me next to her murmuring all the time :) In our next class, she told me we keep laughing all the time, and hence mustn't be sitting together! I told her that laughter is good for health :)

Speaking of health, I just wrote 'sante' in my Spanish book, and B was asking me what I'd written. I told her, "Sante. Health. Don't you know?" It was only then that I realized I'd been writing French instead :) The other day, I ended up why what M was saying in the class didn't have any Macedonian sounds :D Maybe I need to take a break from languages for a while... Which I just can't :)

And it's been fun getting to know AP (even if he's a Barca fan!), not least because he said I'm pretty ;) He's Spanish and plays football. What more can I ask for? :P

Before I end the post, I must remind myself to find some other way of referring to people - maybe I should start using nicknames or something - the other day, it took me almost 20 minutes to figure out who NR (a.k.a. CB) was :)

Adios, folks...

(* - The post was forgotten, then remembered. Reminds me of a phoenix coming back to life :P  It's past midnight. And I'm sleepy. There, an excuse for the mess of a title. Or rather, two excuses :) )

A couple of things

Tap

To be opened when you need water, to be closed after use.
Not to be confused with :

or

(Mountain springs and waterfalls)

Dustbins
Garbage or trash is supposed to be thrown into dustbins. Not around them.

A couple of thoughts

I just made myself a cup of coffee, and on finishing it, it struck me that it tasted like the one served by the Indian Railways :) Maybe I should start thinking of a career in the catering business or food industry :P

*****

Someone just came here to our lab, and each time I see him, I get this feeling of deja vu. I remember asking him where he'd studied, the first time we met, as he reminded me of one of my juniors. I remember him saying he'd never been there (and now he tells me I never asked !!!), but the feeling kept stronger each time we met later. And today he came up to me and asked about the department I'd studied in, and it turns out that he is indeed my junior :D (Small world, indeed, huh???)

*****

I was going to write something more, but as the title says 'a couple of thoughts', I have to restrict myself to two...

Adios...

Advice to self - to be pondered upon and (not) followed

I think that I should read/re-read a book if I'm going to watch a movie based on it. Especially if it was something i read way back in 2007 (when NV was my book-source :P). This is something I realized when I went to watch 'Life of Pi' and 'The Hobbit'.

(Sample this : I only remembered that I'd read them both as NV had lent them to me, around the time she gave me 'Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, and 'Silence of the lambs' - the things I remembered about Life of Pi were that I'd read it, it had a boy and a tiger, the boy's name had a Patel in it, and the boy and the tiger are the sole survivors of a shipwreck and spend many months on the ocean. The only thing I remembered about The Hobbit was reading it standing at a bus-stop, as I couldn't wait to read the ending :P . And that Gollum featured in it somewhere...)

And I think maybe I should learn to nibble at biscuits - eating biscuits whole doesn't seem to be qualify as 'ladylike' :D

I was actually going to say something else, but as RS had just dropped in and we were eating some biscuits, I ended up jumping from movies to biscuits. I think I'll stop now before jumping onto something else :D

Until the next time...

Yet another very brief update

And so, I finally got to see the person behind all the hype, and all the "M is coming, M is coming". I'm not going to say anything more about him, except to say that he was worth the hype and the wait. :D I'd imagined someone totally different, but was (thankfully) pleasantly surprised. M just made my Spanish footballer dreams a wee bit stronger (and made me decide that I'm willing to settle for the Spanish part alone, provided football is somewhere in the picture!) :)

On another note, the Santiago Bernabeu wedding dream is not 'lame'. Definitely not. And why does Nou Camp make a better choice? If it's going to be a stadium, makes more sense to choose the Bernabeu, given my team ties :P

Some lit(t)eral ranting

Yesterday, while I was on the bus, I saw a couple of girls getting up from their seats in order to get down at their stop, and one of the girls just casually threw her tickets down onto the floor of the bus. The conductor asked her what she was doing, and she told him that they'd 'just slipped out of her hands'. When the bus stopped, they got down giggling, and the conductor picked the tickets up and was ranting about them.

The other day, I was walking around campus, and I came across a few people who, when they finished whatever they were eating/drinking, just threw the plates/cups/covers on the ground.

I couldn't fathom how those people could litter so casually. Like I said before (I don't remember when, but given how much it irks me, I'm sure I'd have written about it earlier, too), I really don't understand what people have against using dustbins - why, this major bus-stop where I change buses has a new dustbin, I think it's there in the hope for people to use, at least for throwing their used tickets into, rather than on the ground ; that the dustbin and the area around it seem scarcely used is another matter...

I wish there was some way of drilling this idea into people's brains, but at the moment, I have neither the time nor patience to do so even if there was one. I can only do my bit and hope that the people I know do theirs too.

On a different but somewhat related note, thanks to SM, I've started taking my mug to the canteen for chai/coffee whenever possible. (That the purpose of the whole exercise was defeated last night has been written off as it being still 'early days'). It makes me happy that I seem to be doing a bit (a teeny weeny bit) for something I believe in. (That it also gives me a chance to flaunt my support for my football club just happens to be a side-effect (or benefit, depending on your POV), and not something I actively set out to do...)

Anyway, it's time for me to leave. I just hope that my actions, however little they might be, do indeed matter, and that people get some basic civic sense. (I can only set an example*, it's up to people to follow it :P )

Adios, folks.

* - to be taken in context. I can be used as an example for certain things, like not littering and turning switches off while leaving the room. For certain other things, I can be used as a bad example. Or, preferably, not at all :)

December labels ?

Just wondering : I was "sweet" last December (the one which just went by), and "good" the one before. What will I be this December?
(I can think of a lot of options, but I'd rather wait until December to see what it is going to be, though I'm not the waiting kind of person, as anyone who knows me will tell you! )
